These NBA playoffs have been entertaining to say the least with a lot of surprises and underdogs going much further than anticipated. Even though many people were expecting to see a Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Finals matchup with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James battling it out for an NBA title, the Boston Celtics were able to do the seemingly impossible and beat the two best teams in the Eastern Conference to get back to the NBA Finals for the second time in three years.

Despite Lakers and the Celtics not being the matchup everyone was hoping to see, it turned out to be the best possible scenario as these two archrivals gave us an NBA Finals series for the ages!

Coming into the NBA Finals, the consensus was that the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers would repeat to win their second straight NBA title. Even though the Lakers had the advantage in most people’s opinion, the Boston Celtics were thought to be able to take Kobe Bryant and company the distance, and they did just that.

After the first six games of the NBA Finals, there was no clear cut favorite as both teams played brilliantly at times, but the Boston Celtics suffered a major blow in game six as they lost their starting center Kendrick Perkins to an injured knee. This was a big blow to say the least as Perkins was basically the backbone of the defense, but you wouldn’t have thought that watching the first half of game seven as the Celtics defense was on its A game and completely shutdown Kobe Bryant on the offensively end of the floor.

Despite Kobe Bryant being completely taken out of this game offensively, the reigning NBA Finals MVP was able to pick up the slack on the glass by ripping down 15 rebounds. The one player on the Lakers that really stepped it up in this series clinching game was Pau Gasol.

With 19 points and 18 rebounds Gasol was just a man possessed as he began to control the paint in the second half and was able to lead his team from 13 points behind to an 83-79 victory and second consecutive NBA title.
