Los Angeles Lakers at New York Knicks Fri. Feb. 11, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the elite teams in the league that have struggled as of late. There has been no problem winning basketball games all around as they had a record of 36-16 coming into last night’s matchup with the arch rival Boston Celtics, but they have had problems beating the best of the best in the league this season.
Fortunately, last night Kobe Bryant and company were able to get back on track as they took down their Celtics on their home floor in Boston. That game was to be game that determined where the defending champs were at and whether or not a trade needed to be made in order to compete for another NBA title.
Obviously, the result was better than they anticipated, but the challenges on this seven game road trip won’t stop in Boston as they will head to the Big Apple to take on Amare Stoudemire and the New York Knicks.
Even though the Knicks have struggled as of late, they are still a very talented basketball team that can contend with the best of the best in the league when playing up to their potential. The loss to the lowly Los Angeles Clippers at Madison Square Garden was painful, but they will have a chance to redeem themselves if they can get the best of Phil Jackson’s squad on Friday night.
As of right now, the Los Angeles Lakers are favored to win this matchup with the New York Knicks with a -3 point spread. Even though I believe the Knicks will cause some matchup problems for the Lakers, especially at the point, the champs should get the win and cover the spread when it is all said and done.
Take the Lakers at -3.
