It’s true – the Celts have re-signed unrestricted free agent Nate Robinson.  The point guard signed a two-year contract Friday that will average a salary of about $4 million per season.  There are also potential incentives and bonuses for the point guard if he can live up to the terms.  Robinson is being signed as a back-up to starter Rajon Rondo but can bring a lot to the table as the back-up.

Robinson was originally acquired by the Celtics back in February from New York as a part of a prestigious five-player trade and played his very first game as a Boston Celtic on February 23, 2010.  Robinson is most popularly known by winning two titles consecutively – NBA Slam Dunk titles at that, but holds three of these titles.

Several months ago, Robinson probably wouldn’t have even been an option.  However, since showing his skill and aptitude on the court in the Eastern Conference Finals Game 6, which ultimately helped Boston step up over the Magic, the 5-foot9 point guard showed that he had what it took to be a player on the court.  I’m sure this is what truly got him the agreement Friday.  For the complete 2009-2010 NBA season, Robinson averaged approximately 20 minutes and 10 points per game and for his career, Robinson averaged  2.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 12 points per game.

Robinson played in 56 games last year and had he played in 58 games he would have been able to receive a bonus worth $1 million; however, he was benched for those two games that he needed towards the season end and ended up falling just shy of receiving the bonus.

Boston has quite a few things to get lined up and ready for the upcoming NBA season but they may find a little difficulty in this since they are a little tight with their cap.  However, at  least they can mark “point guard” off their list and know that they have some depth in the point guard position.
