Los Angeles Lakers at Orlando Magic Sun. Feb. 13, 2011 3:30 p.m. EST

No more than a week ago everyone in Los Angeles started to panic about the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers chances of pulling off the repeat. They may be on top of the Pacific division and will almost certainly be a high seed in the Western Conference heading into the playoffs once again, but they were unable to beat the best of the best this season with losses to teams like the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks.

Even though the Lakers had been struggling and were surrounded by trade rumors involving superstar Carmelo Anthony, this team was still extremely talented from top to bottom with a legitimate shot of pulling off the three-peat and sending off Phil Jackson with a record 12th NBA title.

On Thursday night in Boston, the defending champs proved that they are still a serious force to be reckoned with as they beat the Celtics on their home floor in convincing fashion. As if that weren’t a sign of change in Lakerland, Kobe Bryant and company traveled to the Big Apple a day later and destroyed the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

After beating the Knicks, the Lakers are 4-0 on this seven game road trip, but will have their work cut out for them on Sunday night against Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Even though the Magic aren’t playing at the caliber of say the Celtics or the Heat right now, they are still amongst the best teams in the league and will be a challenge for the defending champs.

With the way the Lakers are playing right now, they can once again compete at the highest level and will come out on top in this 2009 NBA Finals rematch against the Magic.
