The Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes has been going on for quite some time now as ever since the All-Star forward decided not sign the three-year contract extension worth $65 million dollars last summer, the league has run rampant with trade rumors involving the promising young superstar.

During the past month or so, the trade rumors surrounding Carmelo Anthony have kicked into high gear with the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks all being rumored to be Melo most likely destinations.

Even though the Lakers got involved recently and had the most appealing player to offer the Nuggets in center Andrew Bynum, the defending champs never really made a serious offer. The New Jersey Nets were pursuing Melo more than any team during the NBA regular season and at one point seemed to have a deal wrapped up, but the deal ultimately fell through for some reason leaving the New York Knicks as the frontrunners for one of the league’s elite players.

Throughout this entire MELOdrama, Carmelo Anthony has had a soft spot for the New York Knicks and has said that he was more than willing to sign a contract extension with the team if traded to the Big Apple.

Well, it appears that Melo will have his chance to shine on the big stage in New York as the Denver Nuggets have finally agreed to a trade that will send Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman, Shelden Williams and Anthony Carter to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks will send Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Nuggets.

There are more elements to this deal which has sent Carmelo Anthony to the Big Apple, but they are subject to change over the next few days as this trade becomes finalized.
