San Antonio Spurs at Chicago Bulls Thurs. Feb. 17, 2011 8 p.m. EST

The San Antonio Spurs have been able to defy the odds this season as they came into the year as one of the oldest teams in the league with a rebuilding process right around the corner, but despite having aging veterans leading the way like perennial All-Star Tim Duncan and the versatile Manu Ginobili, the Spurs have quickly become the team to beat in the Western Conference.

With an impressive record of 46-9 (league’s best), the San Antonio Spurs will travel to the Windy City to take on MVP frontrunner Derrick Rose and the up and coming Chicago Bulls. This game will be the last one played for both these teams before the All-Star break.

Even though the Spurs are considered to be the best team in the league right now with the NBA’s best record, the Bulls are without a doubt one of the league’s brightest young teams led by arguably the best young players the league has to offer in Derrick Rose.

Along with Derrick Rose coming into his own this season and being the league’s MVP for the first half of the season, the Bulls have gotten a big boost from their free agent acquisition in forward Carlos Boozer. With Rose, Boozer and Joakim Noah, this team has a bright future, but they will have their hands full before heading into the All-Star break with the Spurs.

Ironically enough, even though the Spurs are considered to be the top dogs in the NBA right now, the Bulls have been favored to come out on top in this Thursday night showdown in the Windy City with a -2 point spread.

This game will no doubt be competitive from start to finish as both teams matchup well, but in the end I believe the Spurs are just too good and will turn out to be too much for the Bulls.

Take the Spurs at +2.
