The Boston Celtics are sitting atop of the Eastern Conference yet again as they have played extremely well this season, but they did make an interesting move before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 24 by trading away arguably their best big man in center Kendrick Perkins.

Along with Perkins, the Celtics also sent backup point guard and two-time Slam Dunk champion Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder. With these drastic moves at a crucial time in the NBA regular season, a lot of people were scratching their heads with Celtics GM Danny Ainge making these decisions, but they were able to get a little size back into their lineup recently by signing the recently bought out forward Troy Murphy.

Without Kendrick Perkins in the paint, the Boston Celtics will almost certainly struggle against the bigger teams in the league like the San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic and the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, but with Murphy this team will have a lot of perimeter shooters on the floor at all times.

Even though the Celtics are in desperate need of a big to help compete with the best of the best around the league, Boston is confident enough that Troy Murphy will give them enough off the bench in order to help them get past the likes of the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and the Chicago Bulls in the East.

Whether or not the Boston Celtics will be able to compete with the Los Angeles Lakers if the two arch rivals meet in the NBA Finals for the third time in four years remains to be seen, but as of right now they seem confident and content moving forward. There has been some rumors flying around Boston that forward Rasheed Wallace might come back which would help address that size problem.
