The San Antonio Spurs have been arguably the best all-around squad in the NBA throughout the majority of the NBA regular season and more than deserving of the number one seed in the Western Conference ahead of the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, but they might have their hands full in the first round of the playoffs against a very dangerous Memphis Grizzlies team.
A number one seed getting upset in the first round the NBA playoffs is not something that happens very often and something that is never really considered as a possibility, but this season may be different as the Spurs might not be able to handle a young and motivated Grizzlies squad looking to do the impossible.
Like I said before, the Spurs have been arguably the best team in the league all season long, but in the past few weeks they have really started to struggle and show signs of weakness. Along with going on an unexpected losing streak, the Spurs may have also taken a huge blow to their chances of being NBA Finals bound as shooting guard Manu Ginobili’s status could be in question after hyperextending his elbow.
Without Manu Ginobili healthy, the San Antonio Spurs really don’t stand much of a chance against the best of the best in the Western Conference and might be headed for an upset in the first round of the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The one thing that has made the Memphis Grizzlies’ rise so impressive is the fact that their best player has been out for the season for quite some time as Rudy Gay has been out for a while now. Without Gay, many people believed this team would become a bottom feeder in the West once again, but the Grizzlies did the complete opposite.
Prediction: San Antonio Spurs advance to second round in seven games 4-3
