George Mason Patriots (8) vs. Villanova Wildcats (9) Fri. March 18, 2011 2:10 p.m. EST

A few years ago, no one knew who the George Mason Patriots (8) were as they just seemed like another no-name team that were lucky enough to get into the NCAA Tournament. Even though people expected absolutely nothing out of this team that no one had ever heard of, the Patriots were able to do the seemingly impossible and become the Cinderella story by paving their way all to the Final Four.

Unfortunately, the Patriots were unable to finish off their amazing run to the Final Four with an NCAA title, but they were able to become a household name and are now thought of as a legitimate threat whenever they get into the NCAA Tournament.

This season the George Mason Patriots (8) were able to defy the odds once again as they were able to get back into the 2011 NCAA Tournament and clinch a fairly high seed in the East Region. Even though the competition in the East Region might be a little too for the Patriots to handle as they will ultimately have to face the likes of the Ohio State Buckeyes (1), North Carolina Tar Heels (2), Syracuse Orangemen (3) and the Kentucky Wildcats (4) if they want to make it back to the Final Four.

In the meantime, the George Mason Patriots (8) will put all their efforts into beating the Villanova Wildcats (9) in their first game of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

As of right now, the Villanova Wildcats (9) have been given the edge in this matchup despite being the lower seed. With a -1 point spread in their favor, the odds makers aren’t all that confident in their pick, but I believe taking the George Mason Patriots (8) to pull off the upset would be the wise decision.
