Sweet 16: VCU Rams (11) vs. Florida State Seminoles (10) Fri. March 25, 2011 9:57 p.m. EST
The 2011 NCAA Tournament is down to just 16 teams or what it is better known as the Sweet 16. Even though there are still quite a few high seeds left in March Madness like Ohio State Buckeyes (1), Duke Blue Devils (1), Kansas Jayhawks (1), BYU Cougars (3) and UConn Huskies (3), there are two Cinderella stories brewing as the VCU Rams (11) and the Florida State Seminoles (10) are still alive and ready to shock the country by advancing to the Elite 8.
Ironically enough, only one of these two Cinderella stories can advance to the Elite 8 as they will face off in an epic Sweet 16 matchup on Friday night. Even though either one of these will almost certainly see their season come to an end in the Elite 8 against the Kansas Jayhawks (1) or may be even the Richmond Spiders (12), this Sweet 16 showdown should be epic as both of these teams that weren’t thought to do much of anything would love the opportunity to be part of the last eight teams in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
Despite the VCU Rams (11) being able to pull off upsets over the Georgetown Hoyas (74-56) and the Purdue Boilermakers (94-76) in consecutive games in convincing fashion (18 point blowouts), the Rams will be the underdogs once again heading into this matchup as the Florida State Seminoles (10) have been given the slight edge.
As of right now, the Florida State Seminoles (10) are the favorites in this Sweet 16 matchup with a -3.5 point spread. Even though I believe this will most likely be a close game, I think the Rams will pull off another upset.
Take the Rams at +3.5.
