It has been 18 games since Brad Lidge has played a game with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Monday, prior to the commencement of the game against Atlanta, the Phillies activated the right-handed closer from the disabled list where he was placed after experiencing stiffness in his elbow.

At the beginning of this year, in January, Lidge’s elbow was operated on.  He made an appearance in a game on April 30, but his was still experiencing some stiffness in his elbow.  He underwent an MRI early in May that revealed that there no current structural damage but he needed to rest in order to fully recuperate and to do so properly. Derek Holland of the Texas Rangers will more than likely go on the disabled list come this Tuesday.  It appears after some examination, he has mild inflammation in his left rotator cuff.

In Sunday’s game against the Twins, Holland felt some numbness in his left hand and was immediately removed from the game in the second inning.  He had thrown a little more than 40 pitches and was examined Monday by Dr. Keith Meister.  He is expected to be off the field for anywhere up to five days at which time he will probably commence a throwing program.  Continue Reading…

Yup, you read the title right.  The Boston Red Sox activated Jacoby Ellsbury from the disabled list just a few days ago on May 22 and now he is already headed back to the DL.  He is being placed on the 15-day DL due to an injury to his ribs.  The injury is the same one that landed him on the disabled list in April.

Last month, April 11, Ellsbury came in contact with Adrian Beltre, third baseman, which caused Ellsbury to suffer from hairline fractures on four of his ribs.   Continue Reading…

Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Today, it was announced that Kyle Lohse of the Cardinals would undergo surgery this coming Friday on his right forearm due to a very rare condition.

No one expected that the injury to his forearm would be such a rare condition that would require such extensive surgery that would keep him out of the game indefinitely.  This surgery could keep Lohse from returning to the Cardinals starting lineup for the rest of the MLB season. The Washington Nationals placed their catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list today due to a strained lower back.

38-year-old Rodriguez participated in the game Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles, but left the game early with an injury to the lower back.  The team went on to win in 10 innings in the game series finish on Sunday, which Pudge was unable to participate in.

The 14-time All-Star strained his back at the bottom of the game’s third inning when he took a missed swing at a pitch from Baltimore’s pitcher Brad Bergesen.  The Nationals’ trainer as well as the manager came to check on Pudge, but said he was alright and continued his batting where he grounded out and ended up leaving the game at the inning conclusion. Veteran Bob Howry is New Addition to Cubs Bullpen
Added May 21st, 2010 by Stacy

The rumors appear to be true.  The Chicago Cubs have made an addition to their team by signing reliever veteran Bob Howry today.

They will apparently be pro-rating the minimum payout in the Major League to Howry, which is $410,000.  The announcement was made Friday just before the Cubs go into a three-game series with the Texas Rangers.

The Cubs are hoping that by signing 36-year-old right-handed Howry, they will be able to help him with his career while he helps them in stabilizing their bullpen as it is in drastic need of help.  Continue Reading…

The New York Mets game against the Nationals Thursday started off with a bang.  After just five pitches in the first inning, New York Mets’ John Maine left the game.  This is just another hit to the Mets’ roster.

Maine was replaced on the mound by Raul Valdes after Ray Ramirez, the team’s trainer, Jerry Manuel, the team’s manager, as well as Dan Warthen, the team’s pitching coach, stepped out on the mound with Maine after he walked Nyjer Morgan of the Nationals in order to speak with Maine and to quickly examine him.  A few minutes later, Maine was walking off the mound to end his night with Valdes taking step on the mound to pitch to Nationals’ Adam Kennedy.
