After being informed that Old Spice was going to cut their sponsorship with Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart knew he had some work cut out for him to find a new sponsor to fill their blank space on his cars and uniforms.

For the two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion and 2010 Sprint Cup Series Chase contender, the length of time it took him to find a new sponsor was probably overwhelming and tedious.  It took Stewart five months to find a new sponsor to fill the shoes that Old Spice was leaving behind.  While many wouldn’t gripe about a five-month route to find a new sponsor, it was likely the longest five months for Stewart as a part business owner.   Continue Reading…

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase for the Championship begins today as the top 12 drivers as well as the rest of the field take their cars to New Hampshire for the Sylvania 300.

If you look at history, the winner of this year’s Championship is going to be Jimmie Johnson but if you look at this season, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch are favored.  Tony Stewart is the last driver before Johnson’s series of Championship Cup wins to have won the Cup.  While Stewart hasn’t been performing the best throughout the year, he has been picking up as of late and looking back at the past couple years, he always seems to get his momentum in the second half of the season toward the end.  This will be perfect timing for Smoke if he can maintain his momentum as he may very well be able to capture this year’s Championship. Ryan Newman, U.S. Army No. 39 of Stewart-Haas Racing, captured the pole with success yesterday in the qualifying for this Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  He didn’t get the pole without being nervous though.

Newman watched other drivers that qualified before him and he realized that to be his fastest he would need to hug the wall.  This is not something that you see Newman doing very often so it did trigger a bit of uneasiness inside him.  However, he decided to do what he needed to do and he captured the pole position. Brian Vickers, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver of the Number 83 Toyota, is currently 20th in the season’s points standings – 160 points behind the 12th position for the Chase.  He won’t find himself in the 83 Toyota this Sunday, though, trying to win the Autism Speaks race at Dover International Speedway.

Vickers has been hospitalized with blood clots around his lungs as well as in his legs.  He complained of discomfort in his chest earlier this week and was sent to the hospital by Red Bull Racing Manager Jay Frye.  Continue Reading…

Today was the qualifying for this Saturday’s race at Darlington Motor Speedway.  Jamie McMurray was the lucky winner of the pole position for Saturday’s race.  Not only did McMurray win the pole position, but he also set a record lap at the Darlington track.  This is McMurray’s second pole this 2010 NASCAR season and his fifth pole in his career.

The racetrack at Darlington is 1.366 miles long and McMurray was able to set a new track record at 27.264 seconds at 180.370 mph.  Jeff Gordon, seven-time Darlington winner, respectively starts second in Saturday’s race with a qualifying mph 180.323 and a qualifying time of 27.271. This Sunday’s race, the Samsung Mobile 500, will be held at Texas Motor Speedway.  For one owner/driver, this will be his 400th Sprint Cup start.  He didn’t even realize it was until he was informed, but doesn’t feel like it’s much of a milestone seeing as how other drivers have more than 1,000 starts.

Tony Stewart, two-time champion in the series, has 37 successful wins, which ties him with Bobby Isaac on the all-time series list for 18th spot.  Stewart has more than 200 top 10’s and almost 150 top 5’s in his 399 starts.  Hopefully, this Sunday, he can add another victory to his list. Ryan Newman, second driver of Stewart-Haas Racing finally cleared his 77 race drought during Saturday’s race at Phoenix International Speedway in his number 39 Tornados Chevrolet.  He has not won in more than two years and it has been 77 races since his last win.  Needless to say, he was ecstatic as was his car owner and teammate, Tony Stewart.

The win came from Newman taking two tires on a very late caution in the Subway Fresh Fit 600.  Jeff Gordon won the race off pit road with Newman right behind him.  Newman successfully managed to get past Gordon on the green-white-checkered finish and hold him off for the final two laps of the race to take the checkered flag.  Smart move on the crew’s part to take two tires.  Continue Reading…
