The Boston Celtics were noticeably struggling against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals recently as their frontcourt just couldn’t contend with the likes of Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum in the paint.
Despite being outmatched in the paint, the Celtics were still able to take the defending NBA champion Lakers to the full seven games, but ultimately lost in game seven and went home empty handed. Continue Reading…
The 2010-2011 NBA season is still a few months away as it is set to begin on October 26th, but the league has already decided which teams will usher in the new season by scheduling the revamped Miami Heat and the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics to go head to head five days before Halloween. Would you turn down your opportunity to play with Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James if you had the chance? Probably not. Neither would Eddie House – one of the best free agent shooters still left on the free agent market…or at least he was.
Thursday, House’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, released a statement that House has agreed to rejoin the Miami Heat. The contract will be for two years, with the second year of the contract being a player option, and worth almost $3 million, which isn’t as rewarding as other offers he had received but the other offers also couldn’t match one of the NBA’s best trio – Bosh, Wade, and James. Back in 2008, the best of the best in NBA formed what was dubbed as the Redeem Team in order to get Team USA or the US national basketball team back on top as the world’s best in the sport of basketball.
With the addition of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and arguably the best center in the league in Dwight Howard, Team USA was stacked and for the first time since 1992’s Dream Team was representing the US with its best players. Continue Reading…
The Houston Rockets have been one of the better teams in the NBA over the past couple of years with a lot of promise for the future, but even though they had grand plans of becoming NBA champions with both Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming running the show, there plans have changed recently as McGrady has been traded and Yao continues to struggle with injury problems. Tracy McGrady, a highly recognized free agent this year that has grasped the headlines of all the major media resources, performed very well in his workout Monday with the Chicago Bulls. He has recovered well from surgery and is in very decent playing shape physically; however, it’s unlikely that the Bulls will sign him.
The Bulls are looking for someone that can play coming off of the bench. They are simply not looking for a starter at this time and that is exactly what McGrady is wanting – a starting position. If he cannot settle for the secondary role then the Bulls will likely not even consider signing the free agent. Continue Reading…
The past two seasons, Josh Powell has been a backup for the Los Angeles Lakers. Monday, Powell signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Hawks to provide back up to Atlanta’s Josh Smith as well as Al Horford according to a press release issued by the Hawks. Specific conditions of the agreement between Powell and the Atlanta Hawks were not immediately disclosed due to team policies.
The 6-foot-9 graduate from Atlanta’s Riverdale High School plays forward/center position and averaged 2.4 rebounds and 3.4 points per game while with the Los Angeles Lakers for two years. He had an average of 1.8 rebounds and 2.7 points per game during his 63 games with Los Angeles just this past season. Continue Reading…
For the first time in the history of the NBA, the league has continued to get a lot of attention throughout the offseason and the popularity of the game could be at an all time high.
Even though the NBA might not be getting as much attention as it did when Michael Jordan ruled the world of professional sports, it is getting pretty close, especially with all the hype and media attention all the big-name free agents have gotten this summer. Continue Reading…
Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that Kobe Bryant has previously had arthroscopic surgery done on his right knee. The surgery was performed just last week and went very well. However, the good news is that he will be fully recovered and ready to return to training camp with the Lakers when it opens up September 25 and is currently taking rehabilitation sessions for his knee. The NBA offseason has been arguably the most action packed of any offseason in the NBA in the history of the league. Not only were there a lot of big-name free agents available to the highest bidder this summer with a handful of teams clearing enormous amounts of cap space to sign them, but there have also been plenty of trades that have gone down as well.
Obviously, the highlight of the NBA offseason this summer was the Miami Heat signing three of the biggest free agents available in Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and most notably LeBron James. This was unprecedented to say the least as not since the days of the ’04 Los Angeles Lakers (Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton and Karl Malone) have we seen so many superstars joining forces on the same team.
