Chris Jones Agree to New One-Year Contract With Chiefs

Two things became clear during this process: Chris wanted to be a Chief, and the Katz brothers put forth a lot of effort on his behalf.

According to general manager Brett Veach, Chris is an elite player in this league and has grown significantly as a leader for our squad over the past seven years. We made it a major priority to keep him in a Chiefs uniform since he has been essential to our success in previous Super Bowls.

I want to express my gratitude to Chris and his legal counsel Michael and Jason Katz for their perseverance and determination to see this through. Two things became clear during this process: Chris wanted to be a Chief, and the Katz brothers put forth a lot of effort on his behalf.

In 107 games (86 starts) over seven NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Jones (6-6, 310) has appeared. His total tackles during his career are 243 (168 solo), 65.0 (-457 yards), 65 (tackles for loss), and 146 (pressures).

Jones has recovered three fumbles from forced fumbles, 12 forced fumbles, two interceptions, 33 passes defensed, and one interception returned for a touchdown. He has two postseason sacks in his career, both of which came in the AFC Championship victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

Jones led the Chiefs during the postseason of 2022, which included Super Bowl LVII. The 101 committee selected him as the AFC Defensive Player of the Year in the previous season.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected the four-time Pro Bowler and four-time AP All-Pro in the second round (37th overall) in the 2016 NFL Draught. Jones, a Mississippi native, participated in intercollegiate athletics at Mississippi State.

Chris Jones has rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs, and it is effective right away. According to the Chiefs, Jones has agreed to a new one-year deal, putting a stop to his protracted strike that lasted throughout the preseason and the opening game of the regular season.

Jones received several financial incentives as part of the agreement. Initially, Jones was in the final year of his deal and making $19.5 million in base pay. This was the last year of a four-year, $80 million deal that began in 2020.

In a statement, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach stated, “Chris is an elite player in this league and over the last seven years, he’s really developed into a leader on our team.”

He has been crucial to our victories in Super Bowls past, so keeping him in a Chiefs uniform was a top priority for us.

The Jones contract was signed after Andy Reid refused to comment on his contract situation on Monday, despite Reid’s hints that Jones-related plans may be in the works.

Due to his contract dispute, Jones ultimately missed the start of the season, although he was present when the club unveiled their Super Bowl title banner.

Reid responded, “I really don’t have much of an update for you there. However, communication is occurring, which is a good thing. That is being handled by Brett (Veach, the general manager).

Among the top pass rushers in the NFL in recent years, ranking fourth in the league in sacks (56.5) since the 2018 season began.
Jones, a team captain during the postseason and in Super Bowl LVII, concluded the previous season with 15.5 sacks, ranking fifth in the NFL, 77 pressures, ranking seventh, and 29 quarterback hits, ranking third.

The Chiefs did lack Jones in the opening game, ranking 20th in pressure rate while blitzing the sixth-most in the NFL. The Chiefs finished sixth in pressure rate and 19th in blitzing last season while Jones was on the team.

Jones only missed one game as a result of his holdout, so he is now officially back in Kansas City.
