Josh McDaniels Reacts To Jimmy Garoppolo Throwing 7 Interceptions In 2 Camp Practices

Even now, McDaniels exudes confidence in the Raiders’ starting quarterback.

As the 2023 season approaches, we can now observe how players on new teams and those recovering from injuries are adjusting thanks to the start of training camp. Jimmy Garoppolo, a quarterback, is one guy who falls under both criteria.

With the Raiders, the 31-year-old signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract, reuniting with Josh McDaniels, the head coach of Las Vegas and former offensive coordinator of Garoppolo’s New England Patriots team.

How Garoppolo would perform with the new team, particularly coming off an injury, was a question this summer.

While playing with the San Francisco 49ers in December 2022, Garoppolo had a left foot injury. After spending the offseason healing, he was cleared to report for training camp in July after opting not to take the physical when he initially signed the Raiders contract, which had a waiver addressing his injury.

Jimmy G. has not had the best of starts, throwing a total of seven interceptions in the last two training camp sessions.

The team is not as concerned about Garoppolo’s season readiness as some fans and members of the media may be. McDaniels claims he has “no concerns” over the practise picks.

“We’ve also witnessed some excellent throws. According to The Athletic, McDaniels remarked, “It’s a really competitive camp.

As an alternative to emphasising on the quarterback’s errors, McDaniels suggested that people “credit the other side when they make a play.”

With 13 takeaways from the offence last season, the Raiders defence finished last in the league, thus this offseason they are focusing on strengthening this area.

Earlier in the offseason, when Garoppolo missed OTAs as he recovered from foot surgery, McDaniels did not express any concern. When it came to Garoppolo being prepared for training camp, McDaniels declared he had “no anxiety” at the time.

During earlier team drills, veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer, who collaborated with McDaniels when they were both on the Patriots, was taking first-team repetitions when Garoppolo wasn’t on the field.

Garoppolo had 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 11 games, 10 of which he started, before being injured last season. He had five interceptions in six games in 2020, 12 interceptions in 15 games in 2021, and 13 interceptions in 16 games in 2019, which was the highest interceptions of his career. In 2019, Garoppolo assisted in the 49ers’ Super Bowl victory.

The two-time Super Bowl winner quarterback has a starting record of 40-17 and four playoff victories.

Garoppolo will earn a base salary of $22.5 million for the upcoming season after having his $11.25 million signing bonus converted to base pay.
