MLS Fined Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers For Mass Confrontation Policy violation

Several decisions were made by the MLS Disciplinary Committee following Matchday 27 of the 2023 campaign.

In the 89th minute of their encounter on August 20, the MLS Disciplinary Committee found Houston Dynamo FC and the Portland Timbers in violation of the Mass Confrontation Policy.

Violation of Mass Confrontation by Dynamo and Timbers

The MLS Disciplinary Committee found Toronto FC defender Raoul Petretta guilty of failing to leave the field in the 77th minute of Toronto’s August 20 encounter against CF Montréal. Petretta was fined an unspecified sum for his activities.

Houston and Portland have both received official warnings for violating the Mass Confrontation Policy for the first time this season.

Houston defender Franco Escobar and midfielders Griffin Dorsey and Amine Bassi, as well as Portland midfielders Cristhian Paredes and Sebastián Blanco, were all fined for inciting and/or escalating a mass conflict for their roles in the incident.

Petretta Fined:

The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee judged New York City FC forward Julián Fernández guilty of simulation-embellishment in the 84th minute of NYCFC’s August 20 encounter against Minnesota United FC.

Fernández was fined an unspecified sum for his acts.

Houston defender Franco Escobar and midfielders Griffin Dorsey and Amine Bassi, as well as Portland midfielders Cristhian Paredes and Sebastián Blanco, were all fined for inciting and/or escalating a mass conflict for their roles in the incident.
