Torey Lovullo, the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks, took the podium Monday afternoon and declared loudly.
Lovullo angrily remarked, "We didn't come cross-country to get our asses kicked."
"Our guys will be prepared to play our best baseball game—that's why we came here."
Lovullo was discussing the excitement of participating in a Game 7 of the National League Championship Series eight hours later.
With a 5-1 victory that subdued the potent Philadelphia Phillies lineup
the Diamondbacks forced a Game 7 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, which was unexpectedly sold out to 45,473 fans.
Following six straight wins, it was the Phillies' first home loss of the postseason.
