Duke Keeps Kyle Singler for Senior Year
Added April 20th, 2010 by Stacy

Rather than Kyle Singler joining the NBA Draft, he will be returning to Duke to complete his senior year and season.  Kyle Singler is the Most Outstanding Player for the Final Four this year and plans to help the Blue Devils make it to the NCAA Final Tournament and claim another championship title for the 2010-2011 basketball season.

Singler’s junior year was quite a successful one in many ways for not only him but the team as well.  He raised his statistics significantly and he helped his team, the Duke Blue Devils, claim the NCAA title championship where they played against the Butler Bulldogs.  This championship was the fourth one for Duke.  He averaged 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 2.4 assists, and 17.7 points per game in his junior year at Duke. Lions’ Ernie Sims to Philadelphia Eagles
Added April 20th, 2010 by Stacy

The deal that occurred yesterday between the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles was what is known as a three-term deal.  Next season, Ernie Sims will be playing for the Philadelphia Eagles instead of the Detroit Lions.

Yesterday, linebacker Ernie Sims was traded from the Lions to the Eagles.  The Eagles gave the Denver Broncos a fifth round pick while the Broncos gave Tony Scheffler (tight end) as well as a seventh round pick to the Lions.  This seventh round pick is number 220 overall, which makes the Broncos having a total of 4 seventh round draft picks.  At the end of the day, it is Ernie Sims who will be sporting an Eagles jersey next year. Eastern Conference Playoffs: First Round Matchups
Added April 19th, 2010 by Ryan

Unlike the Western Conference, which has known which teams were playoff bound for awhile now, the eight spots in the Eastern Conference have been another story altogether with the eighth and final spot in the conference getting clinched on the last day of the NBA regular season.

Now that it is official that the Chicago Bulls are playoff bound, the Eastern Conference matchups have become set in stone and we can start talking first round matchups and the chances for teams moving forward. Continue Reading…

Injuries are a killer for many professional sports teams, but some more than others as injuries seem to happen more frequently and always to big name players.

The Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA are one of those teams that are extremely talented and plagued with injuries every single season.

Over the past three years or so this has never been more apparent for the Portland Trail Blazers as they have had their number one overall pick Greg Oden go down with injuries in three straight seasons and their all around best player Brandon Roy struggle to stay healthy when the team needs him the most. The Toronto Raptors came into this NBA season with high hopes of finally being able to compete with the big boys in the Eastern Conference like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics, but their free agent acquisition of Hedo Turkoglu turned out to be somewhat of a bust and now the Raptors are heading home instead of into the postseason.

Despite having an unsuccessful season this year after signing a high priced free agent in Turkoglu, the team has shown signs of improvement with players like Andrea Bargnani coming into his own and helping superstar forward Chris Bosh lead this team. Continue Reading…

Taylor Not Quick on Making Mets Offer Decision
Added April 16th, 2010 by Stacy

As previously reported last week, Jason Taylor was headed to New York to meet with the coach of the New York Mets.  Taylor’s agent was almost sure that a deal would be made if not during the visit then very soon after.  However, that appears to not be true.  It appears that Taylor is actually putting the decision off.

Taylor has a lot of pressure on his from the Mets right now, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping him from taking the time to think about this decision to join the New York Mets team.  The deal with the Mets would bring Jason Taylor $2.5 million each year in the deal worth two years.  Everyone was expecting a decision to be made earlier this week. Oakland Raiders: Gradkowski Out; Boller In
Added April 16th, 2010 by Stacy

The Oakland Raiders had no choice yesterday but to sign veteran quarterback Kyle Boller.  The day before the signing took place, Bruce Gradkowski, current quarterback for the Raiders, apparently tore a pectoral muscle during weightlifting workouts in the offseason, according to a close friend.  However, the news conference where Tom Cable was speaking did not disclose any type of information regarding Gradkowski’s injury; he had a pre-draft talk with writers and reporters and left.

Apparently, the expected timeframe of dismissal from playing will be about a month, give or take a little time.  According to a few media outlets, Gradkowski is scheduled to undergo surgery sometime today.  He is expected to be healed and ready to go come time for training camp to begin.  He is likely to battle with JaMarcus Russell during training camp for the starting position. This Sunday’s race, the Samsung Mobile 500, will be held at Texas Motor Speedway.  For one owner/driver, this will be his 400th Sprint Cup start.  He didn’t even realize it was until he was informed, but doesn’t feel like it’s much of a milestone seeing as how other drivers have more than 1,000 starts.

Tony Stewart, two-time champion in the series, has 37 successful wins, which ties him with Bobby Isaac on the all-time series list for 18th spot.  Stewart has more than 200 top 10’s and almost 150 top 5’s in his 399 starts.  Hopefully, this Sunday, he can add another victory to his list. Smokeless Tobacco Banned in the Major Leagues?
Added April 15th, 2010 by Stacy

Congress is trying to create a ban that will prohibit the use of smokeless tobacco, or better known as chewing tobacco, in Major League Baseball.  Steroids have already been banned, what’s going to be next after smokeless tobacco? Over the counter medicines?  Why not focus on more important issues such as unemployment and the war that needs to be brought to a conclusion?

Expanding on the topic of smokeless tobacco, though, it is not harmful to be chewing tobacco while out on the field.  However, Congress does not want chewing tobacco to be used during any game.  It has already been banned for any player to smoke tobacco while in view of the public or in uniform.
