Ever since the retirement of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, the Buffalo Bills have been one of the worst teams in the NFL with little hope for the future. It seems that no matter what the Bills do to improve their squad, this struggling NFL franchise can’t seem to bring in the talent they need to compete with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets in the AFC East division.

Fortunately, the beginning of last season there seemed to be some light at the end of the tunnel for this perennial bottom feeder in the AFC Conference. With quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick finally starting to come through for this team and wide receiver Stevie Johnson quickly becoming one of the best players in the NFL at wide receiver, the Bills were turning into a force to be reckoned with in the AFC East once again.

Not only were Fitzpatrick and Johnson becoming one of the league’s best one-two quarterback-wide receiver punches in the league, but the Bills also had a dominant running game with Fred Jackson having a breakout year before getting hurt. Unfortunately, the team started to fall apart as the season wore on and the Bills fell out of playoff contention after such a promising start.

Despite losing out on a possible playoff appearance, the offseason has gotten off to a good start for the Buffalo Bills as they have agreed to re-sign wideout Stevie Johnson. The Bills have inked Johnson to a five-year contract extension worth about $36.25 million.

Last season Stevie Johnson caught 76 passes for 1,004 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Solid numbers on a team that was completely dependent on the pass after the injury to running back Fred Jackson. As long as Jackson, Fitzpatrick and Johnson can stay healthy next season with some decent upgrades on defense, the Bills will be a force to be reckoned with once again.
