Wednesday, the Houston Texans are set to sign defensive end Mark Anderson, a former Chicago Bears football player.  Anderson was just released yesterday by the Bears in order for Chicago to make room for defensive end Charles Grant, a former New Orleans Saints.

Anderson had a promising rookie season but not so promising seasons after that.  In 2006, his rookie season in the NFL, Anderson recorded 12 sacks, which was the highest for any NFL rookie.  In the three seasons after his debut season, he recorded only 9 sacks with none for this 2010 NFL season thus far.

Anderson will now join the Texans as well as Texans’ linebacker DeMeco Ryans, a former college teammate at Alabama.  Anderson will be a great addition to the Texans team as they have need some support in the defensive end since Week 1 when they lost their edge rusher, Connor Barwin, in their season opening defeat of the Indianapolis Colts.  Barwin suffered an injury to his ankle that ultimately ended his season.  To be exact, his season-ending injury was a dislocated ankle that required surgery.

Despite what his past three seasons have been like, I think that Anderson can bring a lot to the table for the Houston Texans.  I think he has a lot of hidden talent and if he can land with a team that actually wants him (which he is now doing!), I think he’ll be able to pull some strings with his own inner conscious and start showing some strong talent.

Anderson is expected to sign the contract with the Houston Texans on Wednesday and is then expected to be on the field for practice on Thursday.  Moreover, he is expected to demand the rest of his base salary pay from the Chicago Bears in addition to the pay that he’ll receive from the Texans for the remainder of the season.
