San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders Sun. Jan. 1, 2012 4:15 p.m. EST
The AFC West division has come down to the regular season finale once again as Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos and Carson Palmer’s Oakland Raiders will both be hoping for a win on New Year’s Eve. The Broncos are the driver’s seat right now as all they have to do is get the best of the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in order to win the division title and punch their ticket to the playoffs, but the Raiders will have to beat the San Diego Chargers and hope for a Broncos loss.
There is no question that the odds are definitely in the Broncos’ favor heading into Week 17, but the Raiders will go into their game on their home field against the Chargers with a playoff mentality as a loss will officially end their season. The Chargers on the other hand saw their season end last week with a devastating loss to the Detroit Lions in which they were dominated on both sides of the football.
The San Diego Chargers definitely have a chance of giving the division rival Oakland Raiders a run for their money in Week 17, but chances are that Carson Palmer leads his new team to victory and a chance to clinch the division title while making the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
As of right now, the Oakland Raiders are the favorites with a -3 point spread. This sounds solid to me as the Raiders are the better all-around football team coming into this AFC West showdown. The Raiders running and tough defense should get the best of Philip Rivers and company in this battle for a playoff spot.
