It wasn’t until last night that it was clear that the Miami Heat needed to trade Michael Beasley from the team.  Why?  Because it wasn’t until last night that we found out that LeBron James was joining Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade in Miami to play next season.  Once the decision was made, it was obvious that it was time to get rid of Beasley because there simply wasn’t enough room left to pay his salary.

Beasley has been with the Heat for two years now being the second overall draft pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.  He was supposed to be really good but hasn’t quite shown that spark for the Heat just yet.  Last season with Miami, Beasley recorded an average of 6.2 rebounds and 14.8 points.

This upcoming season, Beasley was expecting to receive almost $5 million but the team needed that extra money so that they can disperse it between the trio.  In addition, this also gives the Heat room to bring in a shooter, which is something they strongly need at this time.  Resources say that Mike Miller is a huge prospect for this position with Miami.

Not long after the decision was made by James on live television last night, the trade of Beasley from the Miami Heat to the Minnesota Timberwolves was underway.  He was traded in exchange for a second round pick of the 2011 NBA Draft as well as a switch of future first round draft picks.

Beasley with join Minnesota with an already full front court.  I’m eager to see how they’ll be giving all their front court players playing time this upcoming NBA season.  Looking into that further, though, a player may end up being traded from the Wolves to clear up room on the front court so it isn’t so overcrowded.

Reports suggest that the trade deal should be finalized sometime today.
