The first two rounds of the 2010 NBA draft are officially in the books and there were plenty of deals made and some surprises, but the biggest story to come out of the draft so far is that five Kentucky Wildcats were selected which is an NBA Draft record.
There was no question that Kentucky point guard John Wall was going to go number one overall to the Washington Wizards, but four other Wildcats also going in the first round was impressive to say the least. This was a pretty good bet according to the most trusted online sportsbooks, most experts predicted Wall to go first.
Another Wildcat that went very early in the first round was center DeMarcus Cousins. Even though many people have questioned the big man’s maturity and whether or not his game will be able to transcend on the professional level, the Sacramento Kings still took a chance on Cousins with the fifth overall pick.
The next Wildcat to get selected in the NBA Draft went a little further down the road with the 14th overall pick by the Houston Rockets. The pick was forward Patrick Patterson who will now be on his way to Houston to play alongside Aaron Brooks and Yao Ming. This will be a great addition to this promising young team and he might be able to get substantial playing time sooner rather than later.
The fourth player from Kentucky to get selected in the NBA Draft was point guard Eric Bledsoe. This was an interesting pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder at 18 as they already have one of the best point guards in the league in Russell Westbrook, but they might have been looking for a solid backup for Westbrook and that is exactly what they got in Bledsoe.
The fifth and final Kentucky player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft was center Daniel Orton with the 29th pick by the Orlando Magic. This was another interesting move by a team that already had a great player at that position with Dwight Howard who is arguably the best in the game in the paint.
Regardless of the future of these great Kentucky players, this NBA Draft was a milestone for one of the best college basketball programs in the country and a testament to the greatness of head coach John Calipari. Check out the latest 2011 NBA odds at online sportsbooks.
