With the NBA trade deadline about a month away (March 15), the teams around the league looking for upgrades in certain positions or trying to add the missing piece to the championship puzzle will be working the phones to try and get something done via trade. One big-name that has been talked about a lot recently in terms of possibly being on the trade block is two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns.
Over the past few years, the Suns have been adamant about having no intention of trading their face of the franchise, but with his contract expiring this season the rumor mill has been buzzing. The New York Knicks seemed like Nash’s most likely destination if traded with former teammate Amare Stoudemire and head coach Mike D’Antoni in the Big Apple, but the emergence of Jeremy Lin makes that deal highly unlikely.
Other possible destinations could be with the Los Angeles Lakers or the Miami Heat. With both teams in need of a veteran point guard of Nash’s caliber, one of those teams could make some offers to the Suns. Unfortunately for those two teams, Nash has been dedicated to honoring his commitment to the Phoenix Suns and hasn’t requested a deal be done despite the prospects of the team competing for a title being slim to none.
Recently, Steve Nash said that he has no idea whether or not he will be traded by the NBA trade deadline on March 15. This raised a lot of eyebrows around the league as the perennial All-Star point guard has stuck to his guns about his stance with the team and the fact that Phoenix wouldn’t trade him.
At this point in time, the Phoenix Suns would be wise to try and get something in return for their aging superstar as he continues to play at the top of his game and the team would lose out entirely if he signs elsewhere this summer. Whether or not the Suns trade him before the deadline remains to be seen, but it could happen.
