Over the past few months, the one big-name mentioned in the majority of trade rumors in the NBA has been the Denver Nuggets Carmelo Anthony. Even though it has seemed like Melo would ultimately be headed to the Big Apple due to his connections with New York and love for the Knicks, the New Jersey Nets now seem like his most likely destination.

Heading into the All-Star break, the Denver Nuggets were almost certainly working the phones trying to make a deal with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers or the New Jersey Nets. The Knicks may have been the front runner for Carmelo Anthony as he said he would agree to contract extension with the team if traded to the Big Apple, but the Nets have come through in the clutch as they have reportedly reached a deal with the Nuggets.

The terms of the deal have been disclosed just yet and may not be until after All-Star weekend, but the New Jersey Nets are probably giving up rookie Derrick Favors, sharp shooting forward Troy Murphy and some draft picks for Carmelo Anthony.

Whether or not there’s any truth to this supposed agreement between the Nets and the Nuggets remains to be seen, but I won’t be surprised if this deal does go down as Denver is desperately trying to get rid of Melo before the NBA trade deadline on February 24.

If this deal fails to go through, the New York Knicks will almost certainly get their hands on Carmelo Anthony, but the Los Angeles Lakers might be out of the running just yet as Melo will be in Los Angeles and most likely spending time around the Lakers organization and close friend Kobe Bryant.

Regardless of what does transpire, it will be interesting to see how Anthony can make a power shift in the NBA.
