The World Cup has been going on for a few weeks now and we have finally reached the quarter finals of the tournament. So, what teams made it and whom did they beat out to get there? Let’s take a look.
One of the latest finalists to move into the quarter finals was Ghana. Ghana was able to successfully beat out the USA team this past Saturday evening. They couldn’t have done it without the extra time, of course, but they still beat out the USA 2-1. Ghana will find themselves up against Uruguay in the quarter finals on July 2 in Johannesburg. Uruguay was able to successfully beat out South Korea on Saturday 2-1 to advance. Continue Reading…

Switzerland is known for their awesome defense but it seems that it wasn’t enough this time to take them to the next round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sure, they had what it took to take out Spain in their opening game and defeat them but it wasn’t enough in the end.
In three games, Switzerland was only able to achieve a single goal and was unable to gain the advancement to the second round of the 2010 World Cup due to not being able to successfully claim a score in Friday’s game against Honduras at Free State Stadium. Continue Reading…

The 2010 World Cup has been extremely unpredictable so far as only a handful of teams have actually lived up to the hype heading into the tournament. The one team that hasn’t seemed to have missed a step is the tournament favorite in Brazil, who just recently dominated Didier Drogba and the Ivory Coast with a 3-1 victory, but other teams like Spain and England have really struggled in the early going.
Another team thought to go far in the tournament, but has found it hard to live up to expectations so far is Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. Heading into the tournament, Ronaldo and company were thought to give teams like Brazil and Spain a run for their money, but after a 0-0 draw against Ivory Coast, many people started to question whether or not Portugal had what it took to advance to the next round. In lieu of recent allegations made against the German team for having what many have claimed to have been an unfair advantage is using the official World Cup ball for practice, Adidas has come out to deny the validity of any such statements and to testify to the fairness for all in the World Cup competition.
The ball in question was released last December 4th and premiered in Munich, thus helping to fuel the claim that Germans have had far longer to practice with the official ball than any other global team. At that time, however, the Munich competition where the World Cup’s official ball debuted had been attended by players from around the world, and since then the ball has been used in global competitions ranging from FIFA’s Club World Championship in Qatar to the matches being held in South Africa today.
